Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release

BELOIT, WI - A 7-4 victory over the Beloit Snappers at Pohlman Field on Memorial Day gave the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers a their second win in the three game series. It marked the first time this season Wisconsin has won a road series. Corey Kemp drove in a pair of runs for the Rattlers. Daniel Meadows came out of the bullpen to get out of a fifth inning jam and picked up his seventh win of the season.

After collecting just two hits and no runs against the Snappers on Sunday afternoon, the Wisconsin offense started quickly with a pair of runs on three hits in the top of the first inning. Erik Miller walked to start the game and Juan Sanchez followed with a single. Brett Lawrie, making his first start since having his nose broke on May 21, singled to right to drive in Miller and send Sanchez around to third base. Brock Kjeldgaard was next and his single knocked in Sanchez for a 2-0 lead.

The Rattlers (20-24) doubled their lead in the top of the fifth. Kemp hit a two-out double with the bases loaded to drive in a pair of runs for a 4-0 advantage.

But, Rattler starting pitcher Cody Adams couldn't get through the fifth inning. He walked the lead-off batter and gave up a single to James Beresford. On the single to right, the throw went to third and Beresford took second. Nate Hanson followed with a two-run single.

Adams got the first out of the inning with a force out. But, he would give up another single to put runners at first and second. Jon Waltenbury singled to left and the throw home was in time, but catcher Sean McCraw could not hold on to the ball and Beloit (16-27) had cut Wisconsin's lead to one. Plus, the tying and go-ahead runs moved into scoring position on the throw home.

Meadows relieved Adams and worked around Angel Morales with a walk to load the bases. Meadows got the final two outs of the frame on a popout and a strikeout.

Wisconsin got a pair of runs back in the top of the sixth. A wild pitch by Beloit reliever Danny Rondon allowed a run to score. Then, Sanchez knocked in a run with an infield grounder and the Rattlers had a 6-3 lead. An RBI single by McCraw in the seventh put the Rattlers back up by four runs.

Rigorberto Almonte worked a pair of scoreless innings out of the Wisconsin bullpen and closer Jim Henderson came on for the ninth in a non-save situation. The first three Snappers reached on singles with an RBI single by Angel Morales knocking in a run to make the score 7-4. But, Henderson retired the next three hitters to close out the Snappers.

Wisconsin continues their 12-game road trip by starting a series at Dayton on Tuesday evening. Michael Bowman (1-1, 3.03) is the scheduled starter for the Timber Rattlers. Lance Janke (1-1, 2.45) is set to start for the Dragons. Game time is 6:00pm CDT.
