Winterhawks Weekly: Celebrating Centuries

Portland Winterhawks News Release

Just two weeks remain in the regular season after the Winterhawks took care of business against Kamloops and Wenatchee last week and enter Monday with wins in four straight. Portland snagged a key road win over the Blazers on Wednesday before routing division rival Wenatchee in front of a packed house at home on Saturday. The team celebrated more than a century of hockey tradition in the Rose City with Oregon Hockey History Night on Saturday, while Gabe Klassen celebrated his own "century" with his 100th point of the season in the same game.

Looking ahead, the Hawks face a busy slate of four games in six nights, including Fan Appreciation Night at the VMC on Friday and a Battle with Seattle at Climate Pledge Arena on Sunday!

Hot Hawks:

Forward Gabe Klassen posted consecutive multi-point performances to lead the team in scoring, including notching his 100th point of the season on Saturday. The captain posted two helpers in both games and added a goal against Wenatchee to cap off his five-point week.

Forward Josh Zakreski picked up an assist on Wednesday and a goal on Saturday to push his point streak to four consecutive games. The top 2024 NHL Draft prospect has six points on his current streak and 43 on the season.

Forward James Stefan scored twice on Wednesday and once more on Saturday to hit a team-leading total of 45 on the year. Stefan has points in four straight games as he approaches 100 on the year and 250 in his career.

Defenseman Carter Sotheran recorded his third three-point outing of the season with three assists against Wenatchee on Saturday. The Philadelphia Flyers draft pick is up to 33 points in 59 games, which ranks second among all Hawks defensemen.

Defenseman Marek Alscher picked up a point in both contests last week, including a highlight-reel tally in Saturday's win. A signed prospect of the Florida Panthers, Alscher has points in three straight games and six of his last nine.

Weekly Rewind:

Portland 6 at Kamloops 4 (Wednesday):

The Winterhawks scored twice in each period and withstood a late Kamloops push to top the Blazers 6-4 on Wednesday, completing a sweep in the four-game season series and winning their third straight game.

Portland 7 vs. Wenatchee 1 (Saturday):

Three Winterhawks goals in the first and four in the third fueled a dominant 7-1 win over the Wenatchee Wild on Saturday night. The Hawks have now won four straight games.

The Week Ahead:

It's a busy week with four total games on the slate, including the first of two straight three-in-three weekends to wrap up the regular season.

The Hawks are off to Spokane for a Tuesday night clash with the Chiefs before returning home for Fan Appreciation Night on Friday! Be sure to arrive early to get the final pack of Winterhawks Trading Cards as doors open at 6:00 for a 7:00 puck drop against Tri-City, and keep an eye out for even more fan-focused fun during the game! Saturday night sees the Hawks head out again for a rematch with Wenatchee after topping the Wild 7-1 at the VMC last Saturday.

Finally, the Battle on the Sound arrives on Sunday evening! It's Portland vs. Seattle as you've never seen it - on the ice at Climate Pledge Arena in downtown Seattle!
