Winnipeg Ice News Release
Winnipeg, MB - The Winnipeg ICE will celebrate and support two University of Manitoba's Bisons hockey athletes on Wednesday, November 24th at 7:00pm. Both Lauren Warkentin and Colton Veloso will be representing Team Canada at the FISU Winter Universiade next month in Lucerne, Switzerland. The ICE will host the Swift Current Broncos at the ICE Cave inside Wayne Fleming Arena, located on the University of Manitoba campus, on Wednesday, November 24th at 7:00pm. Using promo code BISONS, a portion of the ticket sale will help both student athletes travel to Switzerland.
Bisons defender Lauren Warkentin was selected to the women's team, and forward Colton Veloso was selected to the men's team. This is the first time both players have been selected to a Universiade roster.
Lauren Warkentin is in her fifth year of eligibility and is the Bisons women's hockey captain. The 5'8" native of Steinbach, Manitoba, has been strong for the Bisons throughout her four years with the program. She scored clutch goals for Manitoba in two straight runs to the U SPORTS Women's Hockey Championship in 2018 and 2019 and backed that up with five assists on a young squad in 2019-20.
Colton Veloso is in his third year of eligibility with Bisons men's hockey. Colton is an ICE alumnus, playing for the ICE in 2017-2018. The 5'11", 196-pound winger has since spent 46 games as a consistent scoring threat with Manitoba. Colton also spent half a season in 2018-19 in the ECHL with the Jacksonville Icemen.
The Winnipeg ICE is proud of Lauren and Colton for representing Canada at the FISU Winter Universiade in Switzerland. Although this is a tremendous honor and an incredible opportunity for these athletes, both Lauren and Colton will be paying for a large portion of expenses to participate in the FISU Winter Universiade. Therefore, the Winnipeg ICE wants to fundraise and help these athletes pay their way to Switzerland.
The Winnipeg ICE has partnered up with The University of Manitoba Bisons to help raise funds for Lauren and Colton.
The Winnipeg ICE and The University of Manitoba Bisons are encouraging ICE fans to purchase their tickets using the special promo code BISONS. A portion of the proceeds from every ticket purchased using the promo code BISONS will go towards Lauren and Colton's funds for FISU. Click Here to Purchase.
ICE Fans that cannot attend in person are encouraged to support Lauren and Colton funds at the following link. Click Here to Donate.
Single-game tickets are available for Saturday, and Sunday games.
