April 19, 2007 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Kalamazoo Wings News Release
Kalamazoo, MI - Wings Stadium, which is also home to "The Annex" and "The Cube," announces that the complex has increased their security level for all events this weekend, which include Kalamazoo Wings hockey on Friday, April 20th and Kalamazoo Xplosion football on Saturday, April 21st.
With the recent events on the campus of Virginia Tech University in Blacksburg, Virginia and in the wake of threats at Kalamazoo Valley Community College, the Wings Stadium Complex deems it necessary to raise the security level.
With the raise in security level, patrons this weekend maybe subject to physical searches and inspection of bags/purses.
"With the tragedy in Virginia coupled the threat of violence in our own community, we feel it is our obligation to our patrons to ensure the safest environment possible," said Vice President/General Manager Paul L. Pickard. "Our goal is for every patron to have the ultimate experience and that starts with their safety".
Fans coming either the K-Wings or Xplosion games this weekend are encouraged to allow extra time to enter the facility.
"We take our patrons safety very seriously at all events, due to the recent circumstances we are heightening our security," said Security Supervisor Thomas Flynn. "We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause our patrons, but your safety is our top priority."
Tickets for game five of the K-Wings Eastern Conference series with the Flint Generals and the Xplosions contest against the Marion Mayhem are available at the Wings Stadium Ticket Office during their regular business hours of Monday-Friday 10 a.m.-6 p.m. or Saturday 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Fans can purchase their tickets by calling the (269) 345-5101 or logging onto www.ticketmaster.com.
Stadium Management Company owns both the Wings Stadium Complex and the Kalamazoo Wings hockey team. The Wings Stadium Complex is comprised of three buildings; Wings Stadium seats more than 5,100 fans for K-Wings home games and more than 8,000 people for concerts and other stage events. The Annex seats 1,367 for ice events and can seat up to 2,850 for non-ice events such as car, boat, and trade shows. The Cube is the newer of the three facilities, that plays host to both ice and non-ice events. All three buildings are available for rental and feature numerous catering and meeting opportunities.
