Aberdeen Wings News Release
The Aberdeen Wings earned a weekend split against the number 1 team in the Central, the Austin Bruins. A strong early second period was the difference for the Wings as they scored two goals on the powerplay.
In the first period it seemed to be exactly like Friday night. Plenty of penalties and few shots on net for the home team. The Wings had 8 different penalties in the first period. They also only had 7 shots on net with Austin having 12. Despite the 12 shots on goal and the multiple powerplay attempts for both teams, the score was tied at 0 to end the first.
The second period the Wings started on a 5 on 3 advantage. Dylan Wegner was able to start the scoring off 57 seconds into the period to make it a 1-0 Wings lead, scoring on the powerplay. Exactly one minute later Jackson Anderson would get a goal making it a 2-0 Wings lead. After the early start it was a quiet period. The Wings were able to kill off three penalties in that period. And despite scoring two the Wings were outshot once again 16-7 in the period.
The third period it was more of the same, with both teams only having 7 shots on goal and only three total penalties, 2 on the Wings and 1 on the Bruins. Austin pulled their goalie with little over a minute left of the game. The Wings were able to hold off the Bruins extra attacker and get the win.
Cole Moore was unstoppable tonight making 35/35 saves. The Wings were able to fend off all 7 Bruins power plays. The Wings stay tied for third in the Central with the North Iowa Bulls. Who, The Wings happen to play next weekend. The Wings close out the 6 game homestand with a 2-3-1-0 record and hit the road the next two weekends making stops at North Iowa March 17-18, then going to Bismarck on March 24-25th.
