Geneva Red Wings News Release
GENEVA, N.Y. - As a well-known baseball rivalry in the Finger Lakes, the Geneva Red Wings and the Newark Pilots know how to keep a 3-hour game interesting. In their eighth meeting of the 2018 PGCBL season, Newark tied the series with Geneva at 4 apiece with an 8-4 win on a breezy Saturday night at McDonough Park.
The Red Wings held the Pilots scoreless until the sixth inning with all-star pitcher #27 Jack Collins (College of Charleston) on the mound going approximately five and two-thirds innings with 5 total strikeouts. Pitcher #10 Mark Bobko (Bloomsburg) followed Collins' performance on the mound and would eventually nab the loss for the Wings.
The score was 4-3 with Geneva on top in the seventh inning until #10 Allen Murphy (SJFC) for the Pilots hit a 2-run home run to also bring in teammate #31 Jared DeSantolo (Florida Atlantic) to put the Pilots ahead 5-4. A few moments later, #16 Ty Babin (Campbell Univ.) smashed a homerun over the right field wall to make the score 6-4, Newark.
In the eighth inning, rounding out the scoring for the Pilots, #10 Allen Murphy (SJFC) drove in another 2 runs courtesy of an RBI single and a Red Wing error.
Key players for Geneva were #13 Austin Jackson (Menodocino CC) who had 3 hits and an RBI, #24 Evan Magidan (Bucknell) who had 2 hits and an RBI, and #11 Justin Barr who had 2 hits and ran in to score for the Wings.
