Austin Bruins News Release

The Aberdeen Wings (8-3-1) overcame an early two-goal deficit to defeat the Austin Bruins (9-2-0) 6-2 Saturday night at the Odde Ice Center in Aberdeen to split the weekend series.

Friday night s game saw only one goal scored through the first two periods. Saturday was much different, as there were six combined goals in the opening frame. The Bruins jumped out to an early lead 27 seconds into the game, when Lucas Kohls (Forest Lake, MN) beat Aberdeen goaltender Chad Catt (Williamstown, MI) with a one-timer on a pass from Jay Dickman (Shoreview, MN). Dickman also assisted on the second Bruins goal minutes later when he fed a pass through to Guillaume Leclerc (Franois, France), who scored his eighth goal of the season to make it 2-0.

The Wings answered back with four unanswered goals to end the first period ahead 4-2. Pat Steinhauser (Plymouth, MN) and Erik Baskin (Minnetonka, MN) scored 18 seconds apart to tie the game at 2-2. Then T.J. Roo (Coon Rapids, MN) gave the Wings the lead on a rebound that caromed off the glass. Jake Horton (Plymouth, MN) made it 4-2 with a power-play goal from the point near the end of the first period.

Only one goal was scored in a fairly even second period, when Wings forward Jonathan Grebosky (Oakdale, PA) took a pass in the slot from Bjorn Sigurdarson (Reykjavik, Iceland) and beat Bruins goalie Justin Quale (Minnetonka, MN) with 1:17 left in the frame to make it 5-2.

Drew Doyon (Carmel, IN) scored his second of the weekend for Aberdeen s final goal to make it 6-2 early in the third. Catt stopped 31 of 33 Bruins shots to earn his fifth win. Quale made 34 saves on 40 Wings shots in his first loss.

Next weekend, the Bruins will host the Fairbanks Ice Dogs at 7:05pm at Riverside Arena, and then travel to Coulee Region Saturday for a 7pm showdown with the Chill. Both games can be seen on fasthockey.com.
