PHILADELPHIA - The Wings rebounded from a loss Friday night to defeat Buffalo, 10-9, Saturday at the First Union Center in front of a loyal group of fans who braved the snow to see their team. Goalie Matt Roik led the Wings with 41 saves. Jake Bergey and Jeff Ratcliffe each scored two goals and three assists, while Dan Marohl added a goal and five assists. "It's been a hard week," said Wings' coach Lindsay Sanderson. "Every win in this league is important. We played real hard last night and thought they deserved a better fate. To come back like this, it was great to see them play a full 60 minutes. If you work hard, good things happen. We picked up a lot of character tonight. We could have used a lot of excuses, but we stayed focused." Buffalo opened up the scoring with the first two goals of the game. Billy Dee Smith put the Bandits on the board 3:29 into the first quarter. Dan Teat followed just two minutes later. The Wings finally put the ball in the net six minutes into the game on a goal by Jake Bergey. Philadelphia had a chance to even the score on the power play, but could not get past Buffalo goalie Steve Dietrich. The Bandits ended the quarter on the man advantage, but did not score. Mark Steenhuis scored for Buffalo 44 seconds into the second quarter, but Sean Greenhalgh answered for Philadelphia 20 seconds later. Philadelphia took advantage of a five-on-three power play to tie the game at three. Keith Cromwell netted his first goal of the game as Dan Marohl recorded his second assist. Buffalo took the lead again with a short-handed tally by Steenhuis, but the Wings battled back with Bergey's second goal of the game. Philadelphia went ahead for the first time when Jeff Ratcliffe put in a pass from Shawn Nadelen. Dietrich was shaken up on the goal, but came up strong with two big saves to end the first half. Coming out of the locker rooms, Buffalo scored first for the third straight quarter, tying the game at five on Teat's second goal. It took nearly 10 minutes before the next goal was scored. Ratcliffe and Cromwell each added their second to put the Wings up by two. Buffalo erased the deficit as Steenhuis and Teat each completed the hat trick, but Luke Wiles had the last say, putting Philadelphia ahead by one (8-7) going into the final quarter. The Wings extended their lead to three with two early fourth quarter goals, by Greenhalgh and Dan Marohl. Buffalo's John Tavares added two goals to his three assists to make it a one-goal game with less than three minutes remaining in regulation. The Bandits took two penalties late in the game to ensure a Wings' victory. Dan Marohl led the Wings in scoring with six points(1G,5A). Five other players scored goals for Philadelphia, including Sean Greenhalgh (2G,2A), Keith Cromwell, (2G,1A), Jake Bergey (2G,3A), Jeff Ratcliffe (2G,3A), and Luke Wiles (1G).
