Wichita Wingnuts News Release

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas - The Wichita Wingnuts pushed their winning streak to five in a row Tuesday night, as they claimed a 6-4 series-opening victory over the Texas AirHogs at AirHog Stadium.

It took little time for the Wingnuts (38-19) to open the scoring, plating three in the opening inning against Griffin Russell (1-8). With the bases loaded and one out, Matt Chavez brought in the first run of the night with an RBI single. Martin Medina followed with an RBI single of his own, and Richard Prigatano then added a sacrifice fly to make it 3-0.

The visitors added two more to their lead in the fourth, as Christian Stringer brought home a pair with a two-run double.

After Wichita got three scoreless frames from Garrett Gould at the start of the game, Texas (20-37) greeted Eddie Medina (2-3) with three straight hits in the fourth to score their first two runs of the evening.

Medina settled in after that, inducing a double play to end that frame, and putting up zeroes in the next three innings. Burt Reynolds then got to him in the eighth, hitting a two-run homer, his league-leading 19th of the year, to cut the lead to 6-4.

The Wingnuts turned to Chad Nading in the ninth, and the first two reached on an error and a walk to put the tying runs on base. The righty then induced a pop up on a bunt attempt and retired the next two AirHogs as well to seal his second save and Wichita's fifth straight victory.

The Wingnuts and AirHogs continue their three-game set Wednesday night at AirHog Stadium. Veteran righty Tim Brown (5-2, 4.88) will get the starting nod for Wichita, while Texas will turn to fellow right-hander Matt Shepherd (0-1, 6.75). First pitch is set for 7:05, and the game can be heard on 1410 AM KGSO, as well as on TuneIn.
