Wichita Wingnuts News Release
WICHITA, Kan. - Casey Harman fired six quality innings and the Wichita Wingnuts got a pair of two-run homers on their way to a series-opening 6-2 win over the Texas AirHogs on Thursday night at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.
The Wingnuts (31-20) struck quickly against Texas starter Sun Jianzeng (0-4), as Tony Thomas smacked his league-leading 14th home run with a man aboard to give Wichita a 2-0 lead in the first. Texas (14-36) answered with a solo home run of their own from Dillon Thomas in the fourth that cut that the lead in half, but that would prove to be one of just two hits allowed by Harman (6-2). The lefty only struck out one, but induced 13 ground ball outs of the 18 outs that he recorded on the evening.
A sacrifice fly from Hunter Clanin in the bottom of the third inning restored the Wingnuts two-run cushion, then Abel Nieves made it 4-1 with a ground ball single that plated Logan Watkins. Clanin provided more breathing room with a two-run home run in the sixth, his second long ball of the season.
The AirHogs trimmed the margin to 6-2 on Stewart Ijames RBI single in the eighth. John Hayes recorded the game's final three outs to secure the victory for Wichita.
The Wingnuts and AirHogs continue their series on Friday night, with right-hander Jordan Cooper (4-4, 6.19) starting for the Wingnuts opposite fellow righty Miguel Rosario (1-6, 4.92) First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM, and will be broadcast on 1410 AM/93.9 FM KGSO, TuneIn and americanassociationbaseball.tv.
