Austin Ice Bats News Release

(Austin, TX) - The Austin Ice Bats of the Central Hockey League announce today the signings of Aaron Wilson and Ted Vandemeer for the 2007-2008 season. Aaron Wilson played in all 64 games for the Ice Bats last year scoring one goal and 10 assists. Before he joins camp with the Ice Bats, Wilson has a tryout with the Houston Aeros of the American Hockey League. An opportunity he deserves according to Coach Brent Hughes. As for his play on the ice, Hughes says, "Willie's a big, tall defenseman who played really well for us last year. I'd like to see him put some more offense on the board this season, but he'll be a big asset for us." Though he still has a tryout in Houston, Wilson says, "I'm really excited about coming back. I'm looking forward to a successful season and making a run to the cup this year."

Ted Vandemeer comes to the Ice Bats after spending time in the Western Hockey League with the Red Deer Rebels. Last season Vandemeer scored 25 points (12 goals, 13 assists) in 58 games. "Ted had a great career in the WHL. He's a good all around player. Good penalty killer, good hitter, and he can make plays. I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do for us," boasts Hughes. "I'm definitely excited. It's going to be a new experience and one I'm looking forward to," says Vandemeer, whose brother Bill also plays in the CHL for the Amarillo Gorillas. "I've played with him my whole life so playing against him is going to be a fun change...we've talked a little about it. We might have to have a go a round or two."

The Ice Bats are getting ready to begin their 12th season in Austin. The 2007-2008 campaign begins on October 19th vs. the Texas Brahmas. Group and Season Ticket packages are available. Call (512) 927-PUCK (7825) for more information.
