Arizona Sundogs News Release

The Arizona Sundogs Hockey Club, in preparation for its second season in the Central Hockey League, has announced the signing of eight players for the 2007-08 campaign. Players signed include returnees Chris Bartolone, Dan Laperriere, Chris Greene, Jon Landry, Karl Sellan, Ladislav Kouba, Jonathan Bernier and new addition Chris Cook. Bartolone, 37, spent his entire professional career overseas prior to joining the Sundogs in 2006-07. Appearing in all 64 games during Arizona's inaugural campaign, the Clinton Township, Michigan native totaled 66 points (13g/53a) to finish second in scoring for defensemen. Ten of his 13 goals came on the power play, good enough to co-lead the league among fellow d-men. Laperriere, 37, will once again serve as player/assistant coach for the Sundogs and Head Coach/GM Marco Pietroniro. A draft pick of the St. Louis Blues in the fifth round (93rd overall) of the 1989 NHL Entry Draft with 48 NHL games under his belt, Laperriere finished fifth in scoring among CHL defensemen with 57 points in 60 games (11g/46a). The veteran blue liner added 13 points (4g/9a) in the 2007 CHL post-season helping lead his team to the second round of the playoffs before falling to New Mexico.

Also returning to the Sundogs organization is center Chris Greene. The 21-year-old forward skated in all but one game for Arizona in its inaugural season tallying five goals and 20 assists with 182 penalty minutes. Jon Landry, 24, skated full-time with the Sundogs during the 2006-07 campaign after a four-year stint with the Bowdoin College Polar Bears in Brunswick, Maine. In 41 regular season games the forward-turned-defenseman collected 14 points (7g/7a) and a plus-3 rating.

Karl Sellan, 21, like fellow teammate Jon Landry, also began his professional career with the Sundogs after a stellar junior career with the back-to-back-to-back North American Hockey League (NAHL) National Champion Texas Tornado. In 57 regular season games with Arizona, Sellan collected 23 goals and assisted on 20 more for 43 points placing him among the top rookies in the CHL.

Also slated to return to the Arizona Sundogs for the 2007-08 season is forward Ladislav Kouba. The talented forward skated in 30 regular season and playoff games for Arizona tallying 14 points (7g/7a) and 10 penalty minutes after beginning the year with the Southeast Division Laredo Bucks.

Defenseman Jonathan Bernier joins his fellow teammates in a return to the Sundogs for the 2007-08 season. The 23-year-old Quebec native led the team with 226 penalty minutes during the 2006-07 term. Newcomer Chris Cook, 25, comes to the Arizona Sundogs after spending three seasons with St. Thomas University of the CIS tallying 61 points in 80 games. Prior to his time in the CIS, the Kingston, Ontario native skated in the Ontario Hockey League for five seasons, seeing time with both Brampton and Kingston.

The Sundogs will begin regular season play at home at Tim's Toyota Center on Friday, October 19 and Saturday, October 20 against the defending President's Cup Champion Colorado Eagles. Both games are 7:05pm start times (Arizona time). In their first season of play in the CHL, arena construction forced the Sundogs to spend the first three weeks on the road.

As was the case last season, the Sundogs will play an unbalanced schedule, meaning the team will face some teams more than others, regardless if they're division opponents or not. Some teams may not see other clubs at all during the regular season. During the 2007-08 season, the Sundogs will face 11 CHL clubs including Amarillo, Austin, Colorado, Corpus Christi, Laredo, New Mexico, Odessa, Oklahoma City, Rio Grande Valley, Rocky Mountain, and Wichita. Clubs the Sundogs will not see during the regular season include Bossier-Shreveport, Mississippi, Texas, Tulsa and Youngstown.

Arizona Sundogs group and season tickets are on sale now for the 2007-08 season. For more information call (928) 772-5555 and to see the complete 2007-08 schedule visit www.arizonasundogs.com/news/headlines/index.html?article_id=307.
