Yakima Bears News Release
YAKIMA, Wash. - Brad Wilson buzzed through the opposition and Raoul Torrez clubbed a three-run homer as the Yakima Bears (17-9, 35-29) defeated the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes (8-18, 25-39) 8-3 in front of 1,383 fans at County Stadium Tuesday night.
Wilson (2-3) pitched into the eighth inning, never facing more than four batters in an inning and did not allow an earned run as he took the victory. It was the most dominant starting pitching effort by a Bear since Andrew Wolcott went 7 2/3 shutout innings in the season opener.
Yakima was leading 3-1 in the last of the fifth inning with two outs when Torrez launched his fourth home run of the season, a three-run shot to left to extend the Bears lead and put the game out of reach.
The Bears matched a season-high with 15 hits and have now won nine out of their last 10 at home.
Zach Walters went 4-for-5 with two doubles and three runs. Arbelo and Zabala also notched multi-hit nights and Torrez finished 2-for-3 with a home run and four batted in.
Shane Kaufman (1-4) pitched four innings, allowing two runs on six hits to take the loss. Eury De La Rosa pitched the final 1 2/3 innings to earn his seventh save.
Yakima will open up a three-game series with Spokane beginning Wednesday night at 7:05. Teo Gutierrez (0-0, 2.25 ERA) is expected to pitch for the Bears against Juan Grullon (0-2, 3.38 ERA) for the Indians.
