Wilmington holds off a furious Detroit rally - win by four

March 28, 2009 - Premier Basketball League (PBL) News Release

Detroit, MI - Alex Harper had 20 and Cedric McGinnis had 19 to lead Wilmington to a tough 107-103 victory over Detroit.

Wilmington had an eight point lead after one quarter and went up by as many as 14 in the second before going to the locker room up 11. In the third, the Sea Dawgs stretched the lead to 21 but then Detroit started their comeback going on a 15-1 run to start the fourth and they were able to cut the lead to 10.

The Panthers were able to cut the lead to two, on a Stane's Bufford three pointer, with just seven seconds to go, but when Detroit was forced to foul, Jim Jones hit both free throws and Wilmington escaped with a four point victory.

Four players scored in double figures for the Sea Dawgs who will take on this same Detroit ball club in a 6:00 Eastern Time start on Sunday night in Detroit. The Sea Dawgs have clinched the fourth spot and will host fifth seeded Vermont in the PBL play-in contest on a date to be determined. The winner of that game takes on Battle Creek in a best of three series.

For Detroit, Stane's Bufford had 31 points with Brian Woodland adding 29. Walter Waters had a double double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
