Battle Creek escapes with victory over hapless Buffalo

Published on March 28, 2009 under Premier Basketball League (PBL) News Release

Buffalo, NY- Kenny Langhorne hit a three pointer with 25 seconds to go in regulation and then ten seconds later hit a pair of free throws as Battle Creek holds off a pesky Buffalo squad 109-106. The win for the Knights is their fifth straight while Buffalo ends the season losing 19 straight contests.

Buffalo had a chance to win this one as they were up two after a quarter and were up 11 at the break. As one Buffalo fan said from the stands, "We have a chance tonight."

Battle Creek would show why they are the top team in the PBL as they shot out of the gate in the third and were down only one after three quarters. In the final minute, Tyrone Rayson hit a pair of free throws as Buffalo took a one point lead with 38 seconds to play. After Langhorne hit his three and a subsequent pair of free throws, with six seconds to go, Langhorne had a chance to wrap it up, but missed both freebies and Buffalo had a chance to tie. Earnest Jones then missed a deep three for Buffalo and Battle Creek was able to run out the clock and secure the three point victory.

For the Knights it was Langhorne with 23 points; Rashi Johnson added 17 for Battle Creek who finish the season at 18-2 and have the best record in the PBL as they head into next week's first round of the playoffs.

Buffalo was led by Tyrone Rayson who had a game high 37; Derrick Payne added 35 for Buffalo who finish the season at 1-19.

Notes: Payne had 15 rebounds to add to his 35 points for the Stampede. Chuck Reed had a double double with 11 points and 12 assists. Battle Creek's bench outscored the bench of the Stampede 49-10.
