October 24, 2012 - Federal Prospects Hockey League (FPHL)
Williamsport Outlaws News Release
WILIAMSPORT, PA - The Williamsport Outlaws took to the ice of Airmen Pond at Historic Bowman Field for the first time to a chorus of applause as the fans of Williamsport and the surrounding area welcomed the team into the community. Unfotunatley for the Outlaws, they fell to the Dayton Demonz by a final of 5-2.
The scoring came early for the Outlaws as forward Rob Sich found the twine behind Dayton goaltender Gerry Festa at the 6:57 mark of the first period giving the Outlaws an early 1-0 lead, more importantly giving the city of Williamsport their first professional hockey goal and lead.
Dayton answered quickly as Marcus Pryde (Mahfouz, Petriello) beat Chris Whitley at the 7:20 mark to tie the game at 1-1. The Demonz would strike again in the opening period, as Mike Hoba found the back of the net to give the Demonz a 2-1 lead heading into the first intermission.
The second period didn't see much scoring but the Demonz were able to capitalize on a power play when Brayden Metz (Felten) found a loose puck in front of the net and buried it behind Whitley to extend the lead to 3-1 in favor of Dayton.
In the third period the Demonz continued their scoring attack as they knocked home their fourth goal when Ahmed Mahfouz (Petriello, Festa) scored his first of 2 goals in the period at the 16:17 mark of the period. The Outlaws weren't held silent in the period as Paul Arnott Jr (Matheson, Zaleski) lit the lamp late to cut it to a 4-2 Demonz lead.
Ahmed Mahfouz would add an unassisted empty net goal at the 19:49 mark to give the Demonz their fifth and final goal. Mahfouz ended the night with 2 goals and an assist.
Demonz goaltender Gerry Festa stopped 40 of 42 Outlaws shots to pick up the win and first star honors in the Demonz win.
Dayton improves to 1-0 in their inaugural season in the Federal Hockey League and pick up two points in the standings, as the Williamsport Outlaws fall to 0-1 and fail to pick up any points in the standings.
The Outlaws travel to Danbury to face off against the Whalers tomorrow night, Thursday, October 25th at 7:35pm, as they look for their first win as the Williamsport Outlaws.
