Erie Otters News Release
The Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League are proud to announce that goaltender Devin Williams has been selected by USA Hockey to play for their Under-18 squad at the Memorial of Ivan Hlinka in August.
The Memorial of Ivan Hlinka tournament pits the top Under-18 national teams against each other every summer. This year's edition is scheduled for August 13-18 in Piestany, Slovakia and Breclav, Czech Republic.
In his first season with the Otters, Williams appeared in nine games, going 2-4-0-1 with a 3.72 goals against average and .908 save percentage. Williams' highlight of the season was on February 15, as he made 61 saves in a 2-1 win over the eventual Eastern Conference champion Niagara IceDogs.
Born on October 30, 1995 in Saginaw, Mich., Williams previously represented Team USA at the Five Nations Tournament in 2011, backstopping the Americans to a gold medal.
The 16-year-old Williams will be eligible for the 2014 NHL Entry Draft in Philladelphia. He was selected by the Otters in the fifth round of the 2011 OHL Priority Selection.
Williams could face Otters teammate Stephen Harper at the tournament. Harper, the Otters' first round pick in the 2011 OHL Priority Selection, will attend Canada's National Men's Summer Under-18 Team selection camp beginning on August 3. Following conclusion of the camp, Harper will find out if he will play for Team Canada at the Memorial of Ivan Hlinka.
