Williams Named USHL Goaltender of the Week

Sioux Falls, SD-The United States Hockey League (USHL) announced this afternoon that Stampede netminder Stephon Williams has been named Reebok USHL Goaltender of the Week.

Williams earned the honor after helping lead the Stampede to two wins over the weekend. He posted a 1.00 goals-against-average (GAA) and a .969 save percentage. On Friday, he stopped 35 shots in a 2-1 win over Lincoln. He followed that performance up with 27-save night in a 4-1 win over Fargo on Saturday at the Sioux Falls Arena.

The Fairbanks, Alaska native is 3-2-0 on the young season with a 2.09 GAA and a .938 save percentage, second best in the USHL.

Williams is in his second season with the Stampede after posting 20 wins last year while helping the Herd to the Western Conference Finals.

He went 4-1-0 with a 2.21 GAA and a .924 save percentage in the playoffs. The 18-year-old has already committed to Minnesota State-Mankato.

Williams and the Stampede return to action this Friday night when they travel to Omaha to face the Lancers at 7:05 PM. Fans can listen to the game "live" on KELO-AM 1320 and online at www.keloam.com starting at 6:40 PM.
