Stampede travel to Omaha Friday night

The Sioux Falls Stampede (3-3-0) hit the road this Friday night when they travel to Omaha to face the Lancers for the first time this season. Last year, Sioux Falls went 4-4-0 during the regular season against the Lancers. The Herd then went on to sweep the Omaha (3-0) in the Western Conference Semi-Finals.

The Herd are coming fresh off two wins at home this past weekend while the Lancers went 1-1, defeating Fargo in overtime on Friday before falling in Waterloo to the Black Hawks, 4-2, on Saturday. The Lancers are 3-2-1 entering the weekend. Goaltender Alex Lyon is the top goalie in the league with a 2-1-1 record, a 1.46 GAA and a .945 save percentage.

Stampede earn back-to-back wins

The Stampede earned two victories over the weekend, defeating Lincoln and Fargo at the Sioux Falls Arena. On Friday, the Stampede scored twice in the first period and Stephon Williams stopped 35 shots in goal as the Herd topped Lincoln, 2-1.

On Saturday, Ian Mansfield recorded two goals and an assist while Todd Skirving added a goal and two assists to lead the Herd past Fargo, 4-1.

Stampede return home next weekend

The Stampede return back home to the Sioux Falls Arena next weekend (Nov. 4 & 5) when they play host to Sioux City and Tri-City at 7:05 PM. Tickets are available and can be purchased at any Ticketmaster location or at the Sioux Falls Arena Box Office.

On November 4th, the Stampede are teaming up with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation for a fun night of hockey. Fans can purchase chuck-a-pucks in the lobby through the end of the second period. Proceeds from chuck-a-puck will benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

"Pink in the Rink Night" a success

The Stampede would like to thank all the fans who helped make "Pink in the Rink Night" a huge success. The club was able to raise well over $2,000 for the Avera Race Against Breast Cancer!

Fans purchased raffled tickets for a chance to win a "pink" team autographed stick as well as chuck-a-pucks to raise money for the charitable cause. Thanks to everyone for your support!

Vanek continues hot start for Sabres

Former Stampede star Thomas Vanek continues to shine early in the season for the Buffalo Sabres. He has tallied at least a point in six of his first seven games and leads the Sabres in scoring with 10 points (6g, 4a) in seven games. On Thursday, Vanek tallied two goals in a 3-0 win over the Florida Panthers. Two of Vanek's six goals have been game winners.

Vanek and the Sabres host the Tampa Bay Lighting tomorrow (Tuesday) at 6:30 PM. Fans can catch the game on VERSUS-TV.

Former Stampede stars leading Hershey

Former Stampede stars are succeeding in the American Hockey League (AHL) as well. The Herd are well represented on the Hershey Bears, the top affiliate of the Washington Capitals. Jacob Micflikier is third on the team in scoring with eight points (3g, 5a) in seven games. Matt Ford has five points (3g, 2a) while Andrew Carroll leads the team in penalty minutes with 29 and has one assist. The Bears lead the East Division with a 5-1-1 mark.

Other notable alumni notes...

* Corey Tropp has six points (3g, 3a) for the Rochester Americans, the top affiliate of the Buffalo Sabres.

* Jake Hansen is third in the nation in scoring with 11 points (3g, 8a) in just six games at the University of Minnesota.

* Jeff Prough is sixth in the ECHL in scoring with six points (4g, 2a) in four games with Greenville.
