Manchester Wolves News Release
The arenafootball2 league office announced that defensive specialist William "Roc" Haith of the Manchester Wolves, has been named to the 2006 American Conference ALL-af2 team for the second consecutive year.
"Roc deserves all the accolades, he really earned it and you couldn't find a player more deserving of the award," said Head Coach Ben Bennett. "I'm also really proud of the whole team for coming together after a rough start and making up as much real estate as they did."
Haith (Liberty), led the Wolves with 71.5 total tackles and six interceptions during the regular season, while forcing three fumbles and collecting two. The two-year af2 veteran turned it on during the Wolves' two post-season contests, as he again led the team in tackles ( 15.5) and interceptions (2), while also returning a 54-yard missed field goal for a touchdown. Haith was named ADT Defensive Player of the Week by the league for his Week 17's efforts vs. WB-Scranton on 8/4.
In 2005, the Washington, D.C. native earned his first ALL-af2 honors (First-Team) in his first year with the Wolves, as he shattered the old af2 and Wolves franchise records for most tackles in a season with 121.5. Haith also set a new team record for most tackles in one game with 13.0, and finished third in the league in passes defended with 33. "Roc" was also named ADT Defensive Player of the Week by the league during Week 6 for his efforts vs. Louisville on 5/6.
Haith's honor marks the eighth ALL-af2 award in Wolves franchise history. In 2002, for the Mohegan Wolves, Brandon Burnside (ST) earned Second-Team ALL-af2 honors. In 2003, for the Mohegan Wolves, Charlie Cook (OL/DL) collected First-Team ALL-af2 honors, while teammate Mel Long (OS) brought in the Second-Team award. In 2005, for the Manchester Wolves, Haith (DS) and teammate J.J. McKelvey earned First-Team accolades, while their teammates Jake Eaton (QB) and Allistair Sebastien (DS) swiped Second-Team honors.
The Wolves season which saw a successful turn around from a 5-7 start to a 9-7 regular season finish, ended in the hands of their American Conference rival Florida Firecats, 40-39, last Saturday in Florida during the second round of the af2 playoffs. The loss closed the books on a hard-fought year which saw three starting quarterback changes and that included the league's strongest schedule. The Wolves organization also claimed their first-ever home playoff game win, 55-47, over the WB-Scranton Pioneers on Brady Sullivan Field at the Verizon Wireless Arena on August 4, and their second straight winning season in Manchester.
"We've had great success with our franchise this season both on and off the field," said Wolves General Manager Angelo Mazzella. "Our athletes were very active and involved in the community this season as well as being talented on the field, and we look to continue to build on both of those qualities going into our fourth season."
