Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers News Release

Wilkes-Barre, PA - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers have been assigned three additional players to their 2003 training camp roster by the af2 league office.

Offensive/defensive lineman Markevius Woods and receiver/defensive back Harry Brunson, both of whom played for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in 2002, will return for the upcoming season.

"Both players are very happy to be back here, and I've gotten good reports about them from last year's coaches (Joe DeMelfi and Mark Arcure)," said Pioneers Head Coach Lary Kuharich. "I like what I've heard about these guys."

The Pioneers were also assigned defensive specialist Kyle Grove. Grove, who played collegiate ball at Norfolk State, was selected by Barcelona in the 2003 NFL Europe free agent draft.

"We know he's involved in NFL Europe," said Kuharich of Grove. "We encourage all of our players to pursue the highest level of professional play. For now, we'll monitor his progress with Barcelona and keep him on our roster."

With the most recent assignments, the Pioneers now have 20 players officially assigned for training camp. The coaching staff will continue to evaluate and add talent to the roster between now and the start of camp, scheduled for March 19th.

The Pioneers 2003 home opener will take place Friday, April 11th against the Mohegan Wolves. Anyone interested in season, group, or individual game tickets may contact the team's ticketing office at (570) 270-5811 or (570) 270-3848.
