Wed., Apr. 29 - Penguins 5 at SYRACUSE 2
W-B/Scranton went a perfect 3-for-3 on the power play and Conor Sheary gathered two goals and an assist to help lead the Penguins to a 5-2 win over the Syracuse Crunch and a three-game sweep of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinal. With the score tied at one in the second, Sheary scored at 2:39 to give the Penguins a lead they would never relinquish. W-B/Scranton then broke the game open in the first five minutes of the third when Sheary and Derrick Pouliot each converted on the power play 2:31 apart. Matt Murray made 33 saves on 35 shots to earn the win.

This series is the first-ever meeting between the Penguins and Monarchs in the Calder Cup Playoffs. Wilkes- Barre/Scranton is the only team in the American Hockey League to have made it to the second round each of the last five seasons. The Penguins have a record of 95-87 in the Calder Cup Playoffs and are 8-11 all-time when Game 1 is played on the road.
Manchester has made the postseason for the sixth year in a row and the 13th time in the 14-year history of the team. The
Monarchs moved on to the Eastern Conference Semifinal after defeating the Portland Pirates in five games, making it the first time Manchester has reach the second round since 2010. The Monarchs' all-time playoff record stands at 36-51, including a 19-25 record on home ice.

- W-B/Scranton's first-round win was the second time in three years and fourth instance in Penguins playoff history that the team has swept the series.
- The Penguins outscored Syracuse, 14-3, over the three matches of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinal.
- Conor Sheary's three-point effort (2G-1A) on Wednesday at Syracuse was the first multi-goal and second multi-point postseason game of his pro career.
- Sheary now has 16 points (8G-8A) in 18 playoff games for the Penguins.
- W-B/Scranton's power play clicked at a rate of 42.9% (6-for- 14) during the series versus Syracuse.
- The Penguins are now 7-for-7 when holding a 2-0 series lead.
- Scott Harrington is tied for second among AHL defensemen with a +5 plus-minus rating.
- Rookie Kasperi Kapanen has scored three goals on just seven shots for a 42.9% shooting percentage.
