Wiliamsport Cuts Down 'Gades, 7-0

Fishkill, NY - On a Fireworks Saturday Night at Dutchess Stadium, it was the visiting Wiliamsport Crosscutters who provided the on-field pyrotechnics, beating the Hudson Valley Renegades 7-0. Leo Nuñez (W, 2-0, 1.13) and three Crosscutters relievers combined to allow just six hits. Second baseman Fernando Puebla led the 'Gades offense with two base hits.

Williamsport did all their damage in the first three innings. In the 1st inning, shortstop Javiar Guzman tripled down the left field line, scoring first baseman Mike Madrid and second baseman Michael Cockrell. Guzman finished the game 1 for 3 with 2 runs and 2 RBI. Leading 4-0 after two frames, 'Cutters right fielder Anthony Bocchino capped off the scoring in the third inning with a two-run triple off Renegades starter Scott Vandermeer (L, 0-2, 5.11).

Immediately following the game, the soldout crowd of 4,494 was treated to two spectacles, the fireworks (presented by True Value & Q92), and the first semifinal of the Poughkeepsie Nissan Hit-A-Yankee Contest. The competition featured three Renegades fans stepping into the batters' box and attempting to make contact off Director of Food Services (and ex-New York Yankees pitcher) Joe Ausanio. Tonight's winner will come back to Dutchess Stadium for the finals on September 3rd.

The Crosscutters and the Renegades wrap up their two-game series tomorrow afternoon at Dutchess Stadium at 5:11 p.m. Probable starters are Yoann Torrealba (1-0, 0.00) for Williamsport and Jarrod Farrell (0-1, 3.38) for the Hudson Valley Renegades. The first 1,500 little 'Gades fans 14 and under will receive a Renegades Hat courtesy of Anaconda Sports & WRKW.
