Wiley Completes Altitude Allocations

GREENVILLE, S.C., November 2 – Guard Derrick Wiley of East Carolina University has been allocated to the Asheville Altitude of the NBA’s National Basketball Development League. Wiley and forward Anthony Greenup are the two allocated players that will report to training camp with the defending NBDL champions on Sunday.

Each NBDL team is allocated two players. Up to 17 players will report to training camps in each market, and a minimum of one allocation player is guaranteed a spot on each teamÂ’s final roster of 10 players.

Wiley, 6-4, 190 from Durham, N.C., averaged 14.8 points and 5.8 rebounds per game as a senior at East Carolina on the way to being named the PiratesÂ’ MVP for the 2003-04 season. He also led ECU in scoring as a junior, averaging 14.0 points per game.

Wiley played at Moberly Community College prior to transferring to East Carolina, averaging 20.1 points and 6.0 rebounds as a sophomore (2001-02).

The NBDL, the NBAÂ’s minor league, includes the Fayetteville Patriots (N.C.), Florida Flame (Ft. Myers), Huntsville Flight (Ala.), Roanoke Dazzle (Va.), Columbus Riverdragons (Ga.) and Asheville Altitude (N.C.).

The league offers players the opportunity to develop their talent in a highly competitive atmosphere under the NBAÂ’s umbrella. Twenty-eight (28) players have been called up the NBA on 39 separate occasions. Nine former NBDL coaches, five athletic trainers, 11 referees and 29 front office executives have also been called up since the start of the leagueÂ’s inaugural season in November 2001.

Designed to help grow the sport of basketball both domestically and internationally, the league also offers fun, family entertainment at affordable prices. The NBDL is a source of on-court talent for the NBAÂ’s 30 teams and is a diverse human resources pool for the NBA and its teams by training employees in management, operations, public relations, sales and marketing positions.
