Wild's Winning Streak Snapped

PALMER, Alaska - The Wenatchee Wild's 4-game winning streak came to an end Friday in a 3-1 loss to the AlaskaAvalanche at the Palmer Ice Arena in Palmer, Alaska.

The Avalanche came out of thegate determined and held a 2-0 lead 10 minutes into the contest. Evan Janssenscored the first goal 3:28 into the opening frame when he scored off a reboundfrom the low slot. Brandon Brossoit assisted. Jeff Bergh put Alaska up 2-0 with9:50 left before the first intermission when he scored from the high slotduring his team's first man-advantage of the evening. Connor Wright assisted.

The Wild came right back, cuttingAlaska's lead in half 21 seconds after Bergh's power-play marker. Working downthe left wing, Ansel Duesenberg (Centennial,Colo.) skated behind the cage and scored from the bottom of the near circle ona sharp-angle shot that beat Avalanche goaltender Nick Kulmanovsky glove side. Michael Lant (Suwanee, Ga.) picked upthe lone assist.

Wenatchee managed to kill two2-man power plays in the second period before allowing a goal by Joe Schmitzduring a 1-man power play with 1:17 remaining before the second intermission.Schmitz scored on a wrist shot from the far circle after receiving a pass fromBergh.

Wenatchee was unable to scoreanother goal over the final 20 minutes of play and went on to suffer its firstloss in five games during a 6-game road trip in Alaska. Bergh recorded the onlymulti-point game with a goal and an assist.

Wild goalie Robert Nichols (Dallas, Texas) suffered his first regulation lossof the season. He made 27 saves on 30 shots. Kulmanovsky stopped 30 of the Wild's31 shots. Alaska scored two power play goals on seven chances while Wenatcheewent 0-for-4.

Game 2 of this weekend's seriesbetween the Wild (8-5-2) and Avalanche (10-6-1) will face off Saturday at 8:30p.m. (PDT). The Wild will host the Fairbanks Ice Dogs on Nov. 18-19 at the TownToyota Center. Both of those games will begin at 7:05 p.m.
