The Swamp Foxes fell behind 13-6 after the first quarter only to watch the Wildcats rattle off 21 points in the second quarter to lead 34-16 at the break. Charleston, however, outscored the âCats 35-24 in the second stanza before coming up short in the end.
Charleston was led by wide receiver/linebacker Leroy McFadden, who tallied 71 yards on six receptions and two scores receiving. He added one rushing touchdown for three on the night. Teammate Mike Chandler equaled McFadden's receiving yardage, 71, on only five receptions. Chandler added an acrobatic interception on defense.
Lanier Washington, in only his second game in af2, tallied his first career touchdown, a 23-yard strike from quarterback John Turman which pulled the Foxes to within three at 48-45. Turman finished 18-for-40 for 223 yards, but tossed a pair of interceptions, including one on the Foxes' final drive of the night which ended any chance for a last minute comeback.
Charleston enters the bye week with a 3-4 record. The Swamp Foxes are next in action in two weeks when they travel to Greensboro for an Atlantic Division showdown with the Prowlers.
