Moncton Wildcats News Release
The Wildcats wrapped up the regular season with a 5-3 loss to the Acadie-Bathurst Titan, Sunday at KC Irving Regional Centre.
Maxim Barbashev, Tristan Sanchez and Mathis Cloutier scored for Moncton.
Barbashev's goal opened the scoring with over two minutes left in the first period.
The Russian winger picked up a loose puck in the slot and rifled a wrist shot past the glove of Chad Arsenault in the Titan goal.
The home side countered just 33 seconds later and the game was 1-1 after one period.
The Titan took a 2-1 lead early in the second and extended it to 3-1 with under six minutes left in the frame.
Sanchez cut the Wildcats' deficit in half two minutes later.
After a Titan turnover, Nick Pavan fed a pass from the left corner to the front of the net where Sanchez pounded home his second goal in as many games.
Cloutier tied the game two minutes after that.
The rookie winger grabbed the puck near the left side of the goal, went behind the net and stuffed a wraparound inside the left post to make it 3-3.
Acadie-Bathurst better the eventual winner eight minutes into the third period and capped off the scoring with an empty-netter.
Goalie Dakota Lund-Cornish made 30 stops in the loss.
Sunday marked the final QMJHL regular season games for overage players Lund-Cornish, Jacob Hudson and Tristan De Jong.
