Friday Is Acadian Night vs Archrival Mooseheads
Published on September 30, 2026 under Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL)
Moncton Wildcats News Release
After an unforgettable opening night the Wildcats are back on Avenir Centre ice this Friday. It's Acadian Night and the Mooseheads are in WildTown for a rematch. We look to celebrate like it's QUINZOU - with Acadian music, flags, face-painting & an 'Acadian Spirit' contest where the winner gets a pair of tickets to Akadi Lumina - so dress up, it could be you! Moosehead Breweries will be giving away Acadian flags with the purchase of Alpine beer in an Acadia-coloured can.
The Wildcats are 4-0 and downed the Mooseheads (2-2-1-1) 6-5 in overtime on September 19 in Halifax. Niko Tournas tied it late and Rian Chudzinski scored the OT winner on a powerplay. All the cardiac Cats wins this season have been by a goal - including 2 OTs and a shootout.
Moncton have climbed up to #7 in the CHL Weekly Top-10 rankings and newcomer Shayne Gould was named to the QMJHL Team of the Week for week 2. The first-year defenceman put up a goal and 3 assists in our 2 latest wins.
Rian Chudzinksi (4G, 3A) and Liam Kilfoil (2G, 5A) are off to hot starts & lead Moncton with 7 points apiece. Sniper Niko Tournas is tied for the Q lead in goals with 5.
Head Coach Gardiner McDougal reached an historic milestone last Saturday night. Coach Mac captured his 100th regular season win in just his 124th game. He's the 2nd fastest to the century mark in QMJHL history, just 1 game short of Gerard Gallant's record of 123 (SNB).
The Mooseheads are led by hometown star Quinn Kennedy (3G, 5A) and will get a shot in the arm with the return of former Wildcat Shawn Carrier (COL) from NHL Training Camp. Malik L'Italien leads Halifax in helpers with 5.
