
Wild Win Home Opener over Minotauros

WENATCHEE, Wash. - There's no place like home. After playing14 straight road games to begin the 2012-13 season, the Wild opened home playFriday with a 3-1 victory over the Minot Minotauros at the Town Toyota Center.
After a scoreless first period, Chris Jones (Normandy Park, Wash.) put the Wild up 1-0 near themidpoint of the second frame on a pass from Max McHugh (Edgewood, Wash.). McHugh doubled Wenatchee's lead alittle over seven minutes later when he knocked in a rebound from the near sideof the cage off a shot by Noah Nelson(Oconomowoc, Wis.). Jones earned the second assist on the sequence.
Jacob Barber (DardennePrairie, Mo.) gave the Wild a 3-0 lead 45 seconds into the second period. On a3-on-2 rush into the offensive zone, Barber scored on a high wrister from theleft wing.
Wild goalie RobertNichols (Dallas, Texas) was on his way to earning his third shutout of theseason until Ryan Doner lit the lamp for the Minotauros with 2:11 remaining inregulation. Paul Sorenson earned the lone assist on what would be Minot's onlygoal of the game.
Nichols played very well. He made 23 saves on 24 shots.Tyler Parks turned away 42 of the 45 shots that Wild put on net.
Neither team scored a power-play goal. Wenatchee was unableto find the back of the net during a 5-minute power play in the second periodand went 0-for-2 overall on the night. Minot went 0-for-4 on its power playchances.
McHugh and Jones led the Wild with a goal and an assistapiece.
The Wild (12-2-1) will try to sweep the Minotauros Saturday.Faceoff is set for 7:05 p.m.
