Wenatchee Wild News Release
WENATCHEE, Wash. - The Wenatchee Wild has prepared two fundraisers in conjunction with this Friday's home game against the Fresno Monsters to aide in recovery in wake of the devastating earthquake and tsunami that ravaged Japan last week.
For every ticket purchased today through Friday, the Wild will donate $1 per ticket to aid in Japan's recovery. In addition, the Wild will accept donations from fans at Friday's game.
Funds raised will be specifically allocated to Misawa, Japan, Sister City of Wenatchee/East Wenatchee. A small city of less than 50,000 citizens, Misawa is located in the northeast area of the main Japanese island, roughly 400 miles north of Tokyo, the capital of Japan.
The Wenatchee/East Wenatchee-Misawa Sister City status officially began in 1981, blossoming out of the historic 1931 trans-Pacific flight of the "Miss Veedol" airplane from Misawa to East Wenatchee. Since 1981, representatives from the two cities have exchanged yearly visits during their respective festivals.
The Wild will wear special Seattle Seahawks replica jerseys during this weekend's series. The jerseys will be auctioned off Saturday with proceeds benefiting four local charities. In addition, the first 2,000 fans in attendance at Saturday's game will receive a free Walt Bobblehead.
