
Bulls Notch Two Points On Weekend, Hold Slim Lead For 2nd In South

AMARILLO, TX - The Amarillo Bulls put up a valiant effort in three games over the weekend but managed just two out of a possible six points. Forwards Dan Sherer, Zack Smoot and goaltender Gregg Gruehl sparked the Bulls play and received honorable mentions for the NAHL Players Of The Week.
The Bulls beat the New Mexico Mustangs 3-1 this past Friday, but then dropped 7-4 and 5-3 decisions to the first place Topeka RoadRunners. However, the Bulls were able to still maintain a one point lead over the Texas Tornado for second place in the NAHL's South Division.
THREE GAMES THIS WEEK: It's a quick start to the week for the Amarillo Bulls with a game on Wednesday when they visit the Wichita Falls Wildcats at 7 pm at Kay Yeager Coliseum. It's the last meeting of the season between the two teams.
The Bulls will then return home for a pair of home games this Saturday and Sunday at the Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center. The Corpus Christi IceRays will visit the Bulls on Saturday at 7 pm, and Sunday at 6 pm.
UPCOMING PROMOTIONS: On Saturday, it's 'Noche de Toro's/Hispanic Night.' Fans can get $5 tickets at LaFrontera Restaurant located on South Arthur. For groups of 20 with the $5 ticket special, please call the Bulls office at 806-242-1122. Sunday is Family Frenzy night and there is a special ticket/food promotion for everyone to enjoy. BROADCAST SCHEDULE: All three of this week's games will be aired live on ESPN1440 and www.amarillobulls.com fueled by Sportsjuice. Wednesday's and Saturday's games will begin with The Bulls Warm Up Show Presented By Wayland Baptist University at 6:45 pm, with the face-off to follow at 7 pm. On Sunday, the pre-game show starts at 5:45 pm followed by the puck drop at 6 pm.
TWO SPECIAL CEREMONIES: The Amarillo Bulls held a couple of special ceremonies prior to puck drop this past Saturday night. Family members were honored during the first Parents' Weekend celebration and were presented with a few mementos. Bulls General Manager Chris Laurie presented the local Make-A-Wish foundation with a check for $10,650 that was raised during a jersey auction in February.
PLAYOFF TICKET PACKAGES AVAILABLE: Fans are encouraged to get their ticket packages for the 2011 NAHL Playoffs that will get underway in the first weekend of April. Prices are based on four home games and start at $40 for Silver-End Zones; $52 for Red; $60 for Glass; $72 for Pit and children 12 and under are just $32. STATS PACK:
ROAD SUCCESS: The Amarillo Bulls have not lost a game in regulation on their road in their last eight contests 7-0-1. Zack Smoot and Cody Freeman have combined for 25 goals away from home, while forward Matt Johnson is plus 19. The Bulls have the fourth best penalty killing on the road and have scored 104 goals in total.
WEEKEND REWIND:
AMARILLO BULLS 3 - NEW MEXICO MUSTANGS 1: Two third period goals snapped a 1-1 tie and lifted the Bulls past the Mustangs. It was the Bulls ninth win over New Mexico this season. Zack Smoot, Dan Sherer and Cody Freeman netted the goals, while Gregg Gruehl won his first start as a member of the Bulls.
TOPEKA ROADRUNNERS 7 - AMARILLO BULLS 4: Rough and tough hockey was on display Saturday as the two teams combined for 202 penalty minutes. Topeka nabbed five goals in the first, including three via the power play and held on for a win. Zack Smoot, Dan Sherer, Michael Erickson and TJ Sarcona scored for Amarillo, while several players earned single assists. Goaltender Gregg Gruehl came on in relief of starter Nikifor Szczerba and stopped 28 of 31 shots he faced but took the loss.
TOPEKA ROADRUNNERS 5 - AMARILLO BULLS 3: The Amarillo Bulls surrendered three second period goals and dropped a 5-3 decision to the RoadRunners to close out the three game home stand on Sunday night. Joe Kozlak scored in the first period for Amarillo and then Matt Johnson tied the game 2-2 in the second. After Topeka took a 4-2 lead, Dan Sherer trimmed the deficit to one. Sherer finished the game with three points, while Smoot had two helpers.
