Washington Wild Things News Release
WASHINGTON, Pa- The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Financial, announced the signing of RHP Quintavious Drains.
Drains, who hales from Riverdale Georgia, played four seasons with Jackson State University where he compiled a record of 32-15, including 21 complete games. He also struck out 319 batters in 376 innings pitched throughout his college career.
Drains became known for his knuckleball during his tenure with the Tigers. I throw a fastball and curveball, with my changeup probably my favorite pitch," Drains said. "I've worked in a slider and split-finger, and every once in a while, when I'm feeling good, I throw in a knuckleball.
"I picked it up when I was 12 from my best friend, and then he died in a car accident. He taught me the knuckleball, so I feel like I've got it and I've got to stick with it. Hitters are never looking for it, so if I can throw it for strikes, it messes with their head."
"We are looking forward to getting Quintavious into camp this year. And I am very curious to see everything he brings to the table," said pitching coach Gary Lee. "We are really excited to have a guy on our staff that has the ability to pitch deep into games and knows how to win!"
The Wild Things open their season on the road however; their home opener at CONSOL Energy Park will take place on May 24th. Fireworks presented by Washington Financial will take place after the game. Individual tickets go on sale April 13th. For information call 724-250-9555.
