Wild Rage by Dawson Creek: Knudson Scores OT Game-Winner

WENATCHEE, Wash. - Ben Carey and Chris Knudson are all the rage. Carey struck for two goals and Knudsonscored in overtime Friday to lead the Wenatchee Wild to a 4-3 OT win over the DawsonCreek Rage.

Carey's first goal came with 3:10remaining in the first period. The Centennial, Colo., native entered theoffensive zone and ripped a slap shot from just inside the blue line thatcracked off of the end glass and took a fortuitous bounce toward Rage netminderEdward Dyson. Dyson couldn't freeze the rebound and the puck bounced into thenet to give the Wild a 1-0 lead heading into the second period.

The two teams combined for fourgoals in the second period with the Wild maintaining a 1-goal lead after 40minutes of play. The Rage struck first in the second period, forcing a 1-1 tie2:08 into the stanza when Ryan Matthews used a top shelf shot on a loose puckin the slot to put his team on the scoreboard. Austin Adduono assisted.

Carey's second goal of the game,this one during a man-advantage, came 5:37 into the second period. Carey beatDyson glove side from the slot after picking up a pass from Chris Kerr (Penticton, British Columbia).Dawson Creek tied up the contest, 2-2, with 9:18 to go before the secondintermission when Jason Wark scored on a one-timer from Scott Fellnermayrduring a power play.

Kerr made it 3-2 with 3:28 leftin the second period when he notched the Wild's second power-play goal of theevening. Sam Johnson (Dallas, Texas)picked up the assist.

The Rage forced overtime whenTroy Petrick scored shorthanded with 2:58 remaining in regulation to force a3-3 tie. Kelyn Opel assisted.

The Wild refused to be denied thevictory and earned the game-winner on Knudson's one-timer 1:45 into the extrasession. Newcomer Blake Roubos (NiagaraFalls, Ontario) set up Knudson. After picking up the puck in the far faceoffcircle, Roubos moved in on net. He was well defended, however, and passed up abackhand shot to turn and slide a perfect pass to Knudson.

Wenatchee goaltender Robert Nichols (Dallas, Texas) made 21saves on 24 shots to increase his record to 7-1-2. Dyson suffered the lossdespite making 41 stops on 45 shots.

The Wild scored two power playgoals on four chances while the Rage recorded one man-advantage on fourchances. Carey (2G) and Kerr (1G, 1A) led the Wild with two points apiece. Matthewsscored a goal and an assist for the Rage.

This weekend's series between theWild (10-7-3) and Rage (6-19-2) will continue Saturday. Faceoff is scheduledfor 7:05 p.m.

Knudson Scores OT Game-Winner
