Wichita Wild News Release
The Wichita Wild of the Indoor Football League (IFL) held its first practice this morning at Hartman Arena. About 40 players participated in the session that lasted about 90 minutes. The Wild will cut the roster down to an active roster of 21 for the season opener on February 26 at Hartman Arena.
Late last week, the Wild re-signed one of their most explosive offensive weapons to a contract for the 2010 season. Running back Darius Fudge will return for his second season in a Wild uniform.
The IFL's Rookie of the Year in 2009 compiled numbers that are rarely seen in the indoor game last season. Fudge led the IFL in rushing yards with 936 and rushing touchdowns with 31. Fudge won the league rushing title by over 120. He was only the sixth player in the history of indoor football to rush for over 900 yards and 30 TD's in the same season. Fudge was named IFL Offensive Player of the Week twice during the season.
Fudge finished his playing career at Western Carolina in 2006. During that season he was named team MVP and to the All-Southern Conference team. Fudge led the team in rushing with 1,046 yards on 229 carries during the campaign and also scored four touchdowns. As a junior, Fudge gained a team leading 722 yards on the ground and scored three touchdowns. He was named to the All-Southern Conference team for his performance.
In 2004, Fudge played in all 11 games for the Catamounts and gained 473 yards on 81 carries. Fudge played a key role in Western Carolina's upset of top ranked Appalachian State, when he rushed for 134 yards on just nine carries. The Riverdale, GA native played in 10 games as a freshman in 2003. Most of his playing time was on special teams.
The Wild open the 2010 season at home on Friday, February 26 at 7:05 PM at Hartman Arena. Single game tickets are currently on sale. Fans can purchase tickets by calling call the Hartman Arena Box Office at 316-927-3999 or going online to www.stage1tickets.com. Tickets start at just $5. The 2009 Wild finished with a 10-7 record and were crowned the Indoor Football League's Central Division Champions.
