
Hinds Named CPIFL 2014 Most Valuable Player

WICHITA, Kan. -The 2014 CPIFL individual awards have been announced, with Wild QB Rocky Hinds topping the list as the league's Most Valuable Player. Wild head coach, Paco Martinez received an honorable mention for coach of the year and LB Jason Catchings also received an honorable mention for Defensive Rookie of the year.
Most Valuable Player: QB Rocky Hinds, Wichita Wild In his fifth season of indoor football and second with the Wild, it is no surprise that Hinds receives this award. Named Champions Bowl I MVP in 2013 and totaling a record of 22-4 over the last two seasons including a championship win, Hinds has been the heart of the Wild offense. His steady play led Wichita to the best record in the CPIFL this season, as the Wild went 10-1 in his 11 starts. In the regular season, Hinds passed for 1,705 yards and 41 touchdowns, which ranked third in the league. In 261 pass attempts this season, Hinds only threw six interceptions and added 89 rushing yards with eight rushing touchdowns.
Defensive Rookie of the Year Honorable Mention: LB Jason Catchings, Wichita Wild In his first season with the Wild, Catchings has added to the already dynamite Wild defense. The 6'3, 235 LB out of East Central Oklahoma has racked up some incredible stats as a rookie, ranking seventh in the league overall for total tackles with 83 and sacks with six, and also first in the league for tackles for loss with 18.5. His efforts this season have helped the Wild remain the number one defense in nearly every category.
Head Coach of the Year, Honorable Mention: Paco Martinez, Wichita Wild Moving from Wild offensive coordinator in 2013 to head coach in 2014, Martinez has continued to build on the Wild's success. Leading the Wild to a championship on the offensive side of the ball in 2013, Martinez has compiled an impressive 22-4 over the last two season and 10-2 in the 2014 regular season as the Wild head coach.
The road to Champions Bowl II begins this Saturday, June 14th with the first round of the playoffs. The defending league champion and top-seeded Wichita Wild will host the Dodge City Law in Hartman Arena at 7:05 p.m. Tickets for the game are just $5 and can be purchased by calling the Wild office at 316.440.5044.
