
Richmond Revolution Sign VA Tech QB Bryan Randall -

RICHMOND, VA.: SportsQuest and the Richmond Revolution announced today that they have signed former Virginia Tech Hokie QB Bryan Randall. Randall started 38 games at Virginia Tech from 2001 to 2004, culminating with his winning of the ACC Offensive Player of the Year and the Dudley Award, the award given to the top football player in Virignia, an award won by current QB Rodney Landers. The 26 year old Quarterback is the all time leader in yards at Virginia Tech with 8,034 and passing yards with 6,508. Randall also owns the record for most career touchdown passes in a career with 48, as well as in a game, 5. He also set a Virginia Tech record in 2002 with his.637 completion percentage, and is 2nd on the all time list for career completion percentage at.588. Randall is 2nd among Virginia Tech quarterbacks in rushing, with a total of 1,526 yards and 22nd overall in school history, as well as having 2 games in his career in which he ran for over 100 yards.
Following his time at Virginia Tech, Randall signed with Atlanta Falcons, spending the 2005 season on their practice squad. For the 2006 season he joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers practice squad, and played in the 2007 preseason for the Pittsburgh Steelers. In 2008 he signed the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the CFL, spending time on the roster as the 3rd string quarterback until the 2009 preseason in which he was competing for the backup spot on the team.
"Bryan brings great depth to our Quarterback position. The addition of Bryan joining rookie Rodney Landers and veteran Robbie Jenkins certainly will make for a very competitive training camp" said Revolution Head Coach Steve Criswell.
Former Dallas Cowboy, Richmond native Zuriel Smith signs
The Revolution also announced the signing of former Hampton University star and Dallas Cowboy Zuriel Smith to a contract for the season. Smith was drafted in the 6th round of the NFL draft by the Dallas Cowboys following a record setting career at Hampton University.
When Smith left Hampton he was the all time leading receiver in school history with both 189 catches and 2,750 yards. Smith is also 3rd all time in TD receptions, tied with former NFL Pro Bowler Jerome Mathis, with 21. Smith is 2nd all time in punt return yards at Hampton with 1,145 yards and 5 touchdowns, and worked almost exclusively as a returner in the NFL. Over three seasons with the Cowboys, Smith had 23 kickoff returns for 495 yards (21.5 avg) and 30 punt returns for 212 yards (7.1 avg) In 2001, Smith set a Division I-AA record by returning 3 punts for touchdowns in a game against Virginia State.
SportsQuest's Richmond Revolution is a proud member of the Indoor Football League. SportsQuest is in the process of building a 250 acre multi-purpose, multi-sport campus in the Chesterfield area of Virginia. The campus is designed to host athletes of all skill levels, from recreational to Olympic training. Among their plans is the creation of an arena that will house hockey, basketball and indoor football. The arena plans to be up and running by 2011, but the expansion IFL franchise will begin play in 2010 at the Arthur Ashe Athletic Center.
