La Crosse Spartans News Release

La Crosse, WI: At an 11am press conference today from their new team headquarters, the La Crosse Spartans announced two key additions to Coach Gilbert Brown's staff. Ryan Maiuri and Mike Davis were introduced to local media and fans this morning as the Spartans new Offensive and Defensive Coordinators respectively. Each comes to La Crosse with years of coaching experience, and looks to make an immediate impact with the expansion franchise.

Maiuri, a native of Sterling Heights, MI, played collegiately as a starting Quarterback at Lakeland College in Sheboygan where he led the Huskies to back to back Conference titles, and to their first Division II playoff berth in 2005. After college, he went on to play for the Hamburg Blue Devils in Germany, guiding them to a Conference Championship in 2006 as a Quarterback and Defensive back. Maiuri returned to Lakewood College in 2007 as an assistant coach helping them to their third Conference Championship in four years. In his new role as Spartans Offensive Coordinator, he hopes establish a balanced attack that other coaches will have to game plan around.

Davis joins the Spartans staff fresh off a United Conference Championship and runner-up performance in the 2009 IFL United Bowl with the River City Rage. With the Rage, he ran a defensive unit that ranked #5 in total Defense, allowing less than 140 passing yards per game to go along with 14 interceptions. Prior to his gig in River City, Davis spent seven seasons playing and coaching indoor football across the country, having taken part in two indoor championships. In his role as Defensive Coordinator, he plans on improving his successes from last season, and turning the Spartans into one of the games top defensive units.

The addition of Maiuri and Davis comes on the same day the team announced that fans will be able to listen to every Spartans game thanks to a partnership with KQ-98. Bill Black along with WKTY Sports Exchange host Matt Skrede will comprise the broadcast team, with Black covering the play-by-play and Skrede providing commentary. "Bill and I are very excited for the return of professional football to La Crosse," stated Skrede. "We are delighted for this opportunity, and are looking forward to broadcasting Spartans games this season." Fans can listen to the live action on KQ-98 or stream it via www.kq98.com along with www.lacrossespartans.com.

The Spartans will play their first live game on February 21st, in pre-season action against the neighboring Green Bay Blizzard. Kickoff is scheduled for 3pm at the La Crosse Center, with doors opening at 2pm.
