Wild Look To Continue Home Win Streak Vs. Odessa

March 26, 2008 - Intense Football League (Intense)
Alaska Wild News Release

The Alaska Wild look to continue their home win streak to four when they face the Odessa Roughnecks this Sunday at 3:00 PM at the Sullivan Arena. The Wild have been focusing on continuing their defensive success coming into Sunday's game, shutting down opponents with the #2 overall defense in the IFL. Coach Abe Hernandez said, "Our defense proving that opposing teams will really have to bring everything they have for the whole 60 minutes." Creating turnovers will be the key for the Wild on defense, as they will bring the IFL's highest turnover margin at +7. #2 Demarcus James and #21 James Griffin have helped significantly with turnovers as James leads the league in interceptions with 6, and Griffin is second with 3.

Offensively, head coach Hans Deemer said, "We have seen what has worked and what hasn't, and we are making those needed adjustments." The Wild will rely on the duel running threats of #34 Gary Harris and #51 Antonio Lolesio Jr. finding the holes, and leading receiving trio of #7 Nian Taylor, #14 Keith Smith and #12 Thomas Ford making big plays.

The Wild face an Odessa team coming off a 22-17 loss to the Fairbanks Grizzlies. Although having played only one game, the trip north has troubled the Roughnecks, as Odessa is last in the IFL in scoring and total offense, and struggled throughout their opening contest at the Carlson Center in Fairbanks. The Roughnecks also suffered a major personnel loss during the opening game, having their starting quarterback go down due to a shoulder injury. "We split the series last season, and regardless of what happens the week before, we take every game one at a time," said Coach Deemer.

Come see the Wild take on the Odessa Roughnecks, this Sunday at 3:00 PM at the Sullivan Arena. Come early and tailgate with your die hard Wild fans! Pre-game festivities start at 2:30 PM. Doors open at 2:00pm and for season ticket holders doors open at 1:45pm. Come to Eddie's Sports Bar after the game and celebrate the hard fought game with your Alaska Wild players, cheerleaders, coaches and staff. Eddie's is located at 6300 Old Seward Highway.
