Wild Bow to Defending Robertson Cup Champs

WENATCHEE, Wash. - The Wenatchee Wild were knocked out ofthe Robertson Cup playoffs Thursday after suffering a 3-1 loss to the FairbanksIce Dogs in Game 3 of the West Division finals at the Town Toyota Center.

Gabe Levin put the Ice Dogs up 1-0 when he scored on a wristshot from the slot 8:30 into the contest. Rudy Sulmonte assisted.

The Wild were starting to build a little momentum and had acouple of good scoring chances in the second period until the Ice Dogs scored ashort-handed goal with 4:04 remaining before the second intermission to take a2-0 lead. Garret Clemment scored the goal when he knocked in a one-timer fromMax Birkinbine on a 2-on-1 opportunity.

Fairbanks increased its lead to 3-0 with 4:07 left inregulation when Alec Hajdukovich scored on a wrister from the left circle. NickHinz assisted.

The Wild broke up Alex Fonz's shutout bid with 51 seconds remainingin the contest when Trace Redmond (McKinney,Texas) knocked in a rebound from the near side of the cage. Dylan Abood (Centennial, Colo.) earnedthe lone assist.

Greg Lewis (Mars,Pa.) made 29 saves on 32 shots in a losing effort. Alex Fons stopped 24 of the25 shots he faced to increase his playoff record to 5-0. Neither team scored apower-play goal. Fairbanks went 0-for-4 on its man-advantage chances whileWenatchee went 0-for-3.

The win allowed the Ice Dogs to advance to the Robertson CupChampionship Tournament, where they will have the opportunity to defend theirtitle. This year's tournament will be held May 3-8 at the Dr. Pepper Arena inFrisco, Texas.
