Wiederer suspended 5 games
January 26, 2016 - Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) News Release
Boucherville - The Director of Player Safety of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, Raymond Bolduc, suspended Manuel Wiederer of the Moncton Wildcats for 5 games. The suspension was handed out following an incident that occurred on January 22nd against the Sherbrooke Phoenix.
Here is the rationale that led to the decision: * The opponent gets the puck in the corner of the rink to the lefthttp://theqmjhl.ca/baillargeon-suspended-4-games/ of his goaltender. * He turns on himself and tries to get out of his zone. * The player at fault heads towards him to check him. * Seeing that the opponent was going to avoid the hit, the player at fault changed the angle of his left leg and made contact with his knee on his opponent's leg in full extension. * Both players were moving towards each other, which gives a certain speed to the contact. * The opponent was injured on the play. * This is the first offense for the player at fault.
The Director of Player Safety took this decision after having viewed videos of the incident, considered the officials report, spoken to the players and organizations involved and after consulting the Advisory Committee for disciplinary action.
The video of the suspension is available on the League's site.
