Wichita Wild Vs. Allen Wranglers February 25th Game Preview
February 23, 2012 - Indoor Football League (IFL)
Wichita Wild News Release
ALLEN, Tex. - The Wichita Wild of the IFL (Indoor Football League) will take on the Allen Wranglers, in Texas, Saturday night in their first game of the 2012 season. The game will be played at the Allen Event Center. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:05 pm CST.
The Wichita Wild and the Allen Wranglers have seen little of each other throughout their respective tenures in the IFL. The two teams met once in the 2011 season in a game that saw Wichita fall to the Wranglers in a final score of 56-44.
The Allen Wranglers are entering the 2012 season with a 10-4 record in 2011 regular season play, The Wranglers took their season deep into the playoffs, but missed the IFL Championship game in a loss to the Tri-Cities Fever (final score 67-46). Allen's biggest storyline for the 2012 season has been the acquisition of former NFL Wide Receiver Terrell Owens. Announced on January 19th, Owens will join the Wranglers for the upcoming season. Under Head Coach Pat Pimmell, Allen will unquestionably be looking to start the season off in winning fashion.
The Wichita Wild enters the 2012 season with many new faces, along with a handful of steadfast returners to the roster. Holding a 6-8 record in the 2011 season, the Wild failed to make the playoffs for the first time in three years. Starting the season 0-5, the Wild made a coaching change to Interim Head Coach Morris Lolar. Under the leadership of Lolar, the Wild went 6-3 over the second half of their season, scoring 43.4 points per game while holding opponents to only 31 points per game. Lolar returns as the Head Coach, and the Wild will look to a clean slate and the opportunity to quietly gain notice in the IFL this season.
Key Matchup: Offensive vs. Offensive Both teams enter the 2012 season with high potential scoring threats. With the acquisition of Terrell Owens, Allen will be expecting big point totals, however the team has had questions at the Quarterback position during the off-season. The Wild quietly added the IFL's 2011 league leading Wide Receiver Tim Simmons to their roster this off-season. With this addition, along with the return of Quarterback Phil Staback, the team could very well score big points throughout the 2012 season.
Keep an Eye On: Wichita's Doug Pierce With heavy eyes on two other Receivers playing in the game, Wide Receiver Doug Pierce may be overlooked in the game, allowing for some big opportunities. Pierce has spent time playing in the Arena Football League (AFL) and knows the Indoor game well. At 6'5" weighing 210lbs, Pierce may be the dark horse of Wichita's offense this season.
Saturday night's game will be broadcast on ESPN 3, and can also be viewed on the America One Network: www.b2livetv.com.
