Edge Play Home Opener Sunday Vs. Reading

February 23, 2012 - Indoor Football League (IFL) News Release

Bloomington, IL, 2/23/12 - The Bloomington Edge, presented by Heller Stores, will play their home opener this Sunday at 3:05 pm when they take on the Reading Express. The Edge are 0-1 after losing at Chicago last Sunday, while the Express have not played a game yet.

This is the first of three games between these two teams this season.

Last Sunday the Edge traveled to Chicago to play the Slaughter in their season opener. Chicago won that game 50-34 but the game felt closer than it turned out. In the opening quarter both teams had two touchdowns and each missed an extra point kick. Chicago outscored the Edge 24-10 in the 2nd. An Edge field goal was the only score of the 3rd quarter. In the final quarter the Slaughter again outscored Bloomington, this time 13-8.

Bloomington's passing game looked good as Dusty Burk threw for 236 yards and 4 touchdowns. But the running game spun its wheels. The running backs rushed for only 6 yards.

While many will worry after the opener, what must be remembered is that the team has only played one game and they lost on the road. This week they have a chance to hit the reset button at home. If they can win it will give them a bit of a fresh start. There are no "must win" games yet, but the home opener is a good chance for the team to get things right early.

Reading has not played a game yet, but come into the season with a positive franchise history. In their six year history the Express have made the playoffs all but one year. They started in the AIFL and shifted to the AIFA. The Express went 1-1 in the AIFA Championship Bowl. Last year was their first year in the IFL. They lost to Green Bay in the second round of the playoffs.

On Saturday March 3 the Edge will get a rematch with the Chicago Slaughter, this time in Bloomington. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:05 pm. For more information on the Edge visit bloomingtonedge.com and the IFL at goifl.com.

All games can be heard on WJBC Online.
