GLENDALE, AZ (February 1, 2012) - The Wichita Thunder did something that no other team could do this season and that is earn the #1 spot on the CHL Coaches Poll in back-to-back announcements. The Thunder have now been on top three times this season and their 27-12-2 record has them atop the Berry Conference and their 56 points are the most in the CHL.
The poll will be released on or near the beginning and middle of each month throughout regular season. Each first place vote receives 10 points, second place votes earn 9 points, etc.
Wichita remained on top of the poll by a slim one point over the Turner Conference leading Evansville IceMen (25-10-4, league-best .692 win percentage) despite receiving one fewer first place votes than the Icemen. Wichita finished with six first place votes and the #2 IceMen received seven first place votes. The Allen Americans (24-10-7) earned the other first place vote.
Eight of the 10 teams in the "ËTop 10' changed positions with the Thunder and the Tulsa Oilers (#8) serving as the only two clubs who maintained their position from the previous poll. Rounding out the top five were the Fort Wayne Komets (dropped from #2 to #4) and the Missouri Mavericks (moved up from #6 to #5).
The biggest jump in the recent poll came from the Texas Brahmas who are 6-4-1 in their last 11 games earning them enough votes to move from #10 to #7. No other team rose or fell more than two places.
