Evansville's Bryan Gillis Named 50/50 Central/CHL Rookie of the Month

GLENDALE, AZ (February 1, 2012) -The Central Hockey League announced today that Evansville goaltender Bryan Gillis has been named the recipient of the 50/50 Central/CHL Rookie of the Month (January/2012). The first-year net minder will receive a special gift courtesy of 50/50 Central and the Central Hockey League.

Gillis is the first goaltender to win this award that began at the start of the 2011-12 season and did so by winning all 10 starts he made during the month of January. Overall, Gillis turned away every opponent while recording two shutouts along the way, and his play has been a major catalyst to the IceMen forging their way into first place in the Turner Conference with a 25-10-4 record and 54 points.

The Halifax, Nova Scotia native has not tasted defeat since New Year's Eve and along the way recorded back to back shutouts (January 17th and 20th) stopping 73 combined shots during those games. During the entire month of January, Gillis allowed just 12 goals for a sparkling 1.19 goals against average.

On the season, Gillis is 17-3-1 ranking second in the league with a 2.28 goals against average and second with a .928 save percentage.

Prior to joining the IceMen, Gillis played two seasons at St. Francis Xavier University and played two seasons with the Salmon Arm Silverbacks in the BCHL.
