Calgary, AB - The Western Hockey League concluded their Board of Governors meetings earlier today in Calgary.

The two day meeting focused primarily on strategic planning and reviewing a report on the long term economic sustainability for all WHL franchises.

The WHL also approved the schedule format for the 2008-09 season. The schedule will once again feature a rivalry based schedule with a partial conference inter-lock. Next season the East Division will travel to the B.C. Division; the Central Division to the U.S. Division; the U.S. Division to the East Division and the B.C. Division to the Central Division as part of the inter-locking format

The WHL also announced the extension of the contract for WHL Commissioner Ron Robison for an additional three years through the 2010-11 season. Robison, in his eighth season as WHL Commissioner, has been instrumental in the WHL expanding its leading role in supporting minor hockey programs and providing enhanced scholarship opportunities to WHL graduate players.

"I am very excited to have the opportunity to continue to play a leading role in the continued growth and development of the WHL," commented Robison, "The WHL is fully committed to continue to be a leader in player development and education and I am looking forward to building on our strengths in these areas in the seasons ahead."
