
WHL Announces Weekly Award Winners

Calgary, Alta. - The Western Hockey League announced today that Moose Jaw Warriors forward Jagger Firkus has been named Tempo WHL Player of the Week for the week ending October 1, 2023.
The Seattle Kraken prospect finished the week with three goals and seven points from his three appearances with the Warriors, scoring in each of his three contests as Moose Jaw posted a 3-0-0-0 record.
The product of Irma, Alta. began his week Wednesday, September 27 with a goal and two assists at Regina; he opened the scoring in the first period, then added a pair of helpers as the Warriors doubled up the Pats 4-2.
Firkus replicated his three point performance two nights later versus the Brandon Wheat Kings, scoring one and adding a pair of assists in a 5-2 Moose Jaw victory.
He was named the game's Second Star.
The 19-year-old extended his goal-scoring streak to three games to begin the 2023-24 Regular Season Saturday, September 30, scoring once as the Warriors edged the Regina Pats 4-3 in overtime.
Originally selected by the Moose Jaw Warriors in the fourth round of the 2019 WHL Draft, Firkus has accumulated 191 points (86G-105A) in 170 career WHL regular season games.
He was selected by the Seattle Kraken in the second round of the 2022 NHL Draft and signed an entry-level contract with the NHL Club this past April.
Jagger Firkus and the Moose Jaw Warriors are next in action Friday, October 6 when they open a two-game Alberta road trip versus the Lethbridge Hurricanes (7:00 p.m. MT, Enmax Centre).
SILVERTIPS NETMINDER CHADWICK NAMED WHL GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK
The Western Hockey League announced today that Everett Silvertips goaltender Ethan Chadwick has been named WHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending October 1, 2023.
In his lone outing of the week Chadwick, who hails from Saskatoon, Sask., posted a shutout to earn his first victory in a Silvertips uniform.
The 19-year-old stopped all 24 shots he faced Saturday, September 30 to help Everett defeat the Kamloops Blazers on home ice.
He was named the game's Third Star.
Chadwick was originally selected by the Saskatoon Blades in the third round of the 2019 WHL Draft and was acquired by the Silvertips via trade in May of 2023. In 48 career regular season contests with Saskatoon and Everett, he has compiled a 30-13-1-1 record, 2.81 goals-against average, .896 save percentage and three shutouts.
Ethan Chadwick and the Everett Silvertips are next in action Friday, October 6 when they visit the Portland Winterhawks (7:00 p.m. PT, Veterans Memorial Coliseum).
COUGARS FORWARD PARASCAK NAMED WHL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
The Western Hockey League announced today that Prince George Cougars forward Terik Parascak has been named WHL Rookie of the Week for the week ending October 1, 2023.
The 17-year-old forward led all WHL first-year players with seven points (5G-2A), a total that included a six-point game as Prince George earned two victories on the road versus the Victoria Royals.
Parascak started his week Friday, September 29 with four goals and two assists, helping the Cougars to an 11-2 victory versus the Royals.
He tallied a pair of power-play goals, a short-handed marker as well as one goal at even strength in the contest and was named the game's First Star.
The following evening Parascak, who hails from Lethbridge, Alta. scored once as Prince George defeated Victoria 5-3.
The 5-foot-11, 179-pound forward begins the week leading the WHL in goals (eight) and points (12).
Parascak was originally selected by the Cougars in the fourth round of the 2021 WHL Prospects Draft; in eight career WHL regular season contests, he has totalled 12 points (8G-4A).
Terik Parascak and the Prince George Cougars are next in action Tuesday, October 3 when they open a two-game home series versus the Kelowna Rockets (7:00 p.m. PT, CN Centre).
