
Whitworth Heads to Houston

New Haven County Cutters News Release
West Haven- The New Haven County Cutters announced today LHP Brad Whitworth signed with the Houston Astros. The 6'2" pitcher compiled a 7-6 record striking out 81 in 103 innings of work last season.
Whitworth is a graduate of Benedictine (KS) College and has played four years of professional baseball, compiling a 19-23 record, working 365.1 innings. Brad has great control striking out 242 batters compared to walking only 101 in his career.
Brad spent the first part of 2005 with the New Jersey Jackals going 2-2 in 5 games before being traded to the Cutters in late June. Whitworth helped the Cutters go 28-18 in the second half, leading them to a South Division Championship.
This is the second Cutters pitcher to sign with a Major League team since the start of 2006. Cutters pitcher Andy Weimer signed with the Cincinnati Reds in late January.
The Cutters kick off the 2006 season on May 25th as they travel to take on the Brockton Rox. The Cutters will play their home opener on May 29th against 2005 Champion, Worcester Tornados.
