WhiteWings to Host Texas Winter League

The Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings are proud to announce a press conference at Harlingen Field for South Texas media to promote their hosting of the Texas Winter League for 2013 on Monday, January 28 at 3 p.m.

Beginning a 36 game schedule on Feb. 5, the Texas Winter League has been designed to offer a great opportunity for players who want to evolve their career in to professional baseball. Scouts from multiple major league organizations and four professional leagues will be evaluating the players.

Among the more notable players who have agreed to participate are former Southern University outfielder Vince Coleman Jr., Dave Angle, a perennial .300 hitting catcher for NAIA powerhouse Point Park University, former Yomuri Giants hurler Keisuke Saito, Cole "Tex" Stephens, one of the 2012 WhiteWings' top starting pitchers, and Justin Klipp, a pitcher on Cal State-Fullerton's 2007 College World Series squad.

The league will have a truly international flair, as players from the United States, Mexico, Japan, Venezuela, Puerto Rico and the Netherlands have signed to play.

The league itself, originally scheduled for Fort Worth, was moved to Harlingen as a benefit and a source of entertainment for our Winter Texan visitors who are spending February in the Rio Grande Valley. A full concession stand with beer will be available for fans, with games played at Harlingen Field Tuesday through Sundays throughout February at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., with the exception of Tuesday, February 12 and 19.

Teams in the league will be the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings, managed by regular season WhiteWings skipper Eddie Dennis; the McAllen Thunder, managed by the Gary South Shore Railcats' (American Association) Greg Tagert; the Edinburg Roadrunners, managed by the Normal Cornbelters' (Frontier League) Brooks Carey; and the Brownsville Charros, guided by White Sands Pupfish (Pecos League) manager Chris Patterson.

Season tickets are available for all 36 regular season games for just $35 cash or check and can be obtained at Harlingen Field, located at 1216 Fair Park Blvd., Harlingen, TX 78550.
