WhiteWings Take Series from Thunder

Harlingen, Texas - The Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings (19-12) jumped out to an early lead on the McAllen Thunder (10-22) and captured a 12-4 victory on Monday afternoon at Harlingen Field.

Seven runs in the first three innings allowed the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings to put the game away early and took the four game series 3-games to 1.

An RBI single by Leivi Ventura and an RBI double by Ruddy Yan during the first inning and an RBI single by Fidel Hernandez in the second inning supplied the early offense for the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings.

James Mays went a perfect 3-3 at the plate for the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings. He singled in the second inning, doubled in the fourth innings, and homered in the eighth inning.

Eddie Dennis Jr. improved to 1-0 on the year by picking up the win for the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings. He allowed two runs over five innings. Dennis Jr. struck out three, walked four and gave up four hits.

Toro Trevino (0-1) was the game's losing pitcher. He allowed seven runs in 2 2/3 innings, walked four and struck out none in his season debut for the Thunder.

Offensively for the Thunder, Brian Nichols, Yasser Gomez, and Matt Reading provided two hits each, while Gomez, Reading, and Nichols drove in runs.

The McAllen Thunder will have an off day on Tuesday but will return on the road versus the Fort Worth Cats on Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at La Grave field with the first pitch scheduled at 7:05 p.m.
