WhiteWings Take Game One of Doubleheader In Walk-Off Fashion

HARLINGEN - Yeurys Tejeda hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth as the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings beat the Amarillo Dillas 5-4 in game one of a doubleheader Saturday at Harlingen Field.

The WhiteWings (28-32) are now winners of nine of their last eleven games.

Javis Diaz led off the bottom of the ninth with an infield-single against Frank Corolla IV (0-4), stole second, moved to third on an errant pick-off throw and scored on the sacrifice fly one batter later.

That made a winner of Miguel Matos (4-3), who pitched four hitless innings, striking out three and walking one.

Steve Raburn walked all three Dillas (36-26) he faced before giving way to Luis Martinez, who struck out Julio Martinez and Daryl Jones before Rob Recuenco hit a grounder to second that Agustin Septimo couldn't handle after one hop, allowing to runs to score, making it 2-0.

The WhiteWings responded right away against Ronald Lowe. With one out, Septimo walked and Yeurys Tejeda was hit by a pitch. Welison Baez hit an RBI-double, and after Welington Dotel was hit by a pitch, Arlon Quiroz hit a two-run single to make it 4-2.

Daryl Jones hit a two-out two-run home run in the top of the fifth to tie the game at 4-4.

The WhiteWings and Dillas play game two of this doubleheader at about 9:35 p.m. Right-hander Jose Nieto (0-1) is expected to face right-hander Taylor Allen (1-2).
